Has there been a lot of interesting Devils news during the off-season? Of course. Will I get around to posting it? Yes. Am I going to report on the easy stuff first? Absolutely.
The 2008-09 Schedule has been released on Thursday. The schedule has a slightly different format than last year, with teams playing divisional opponents 6 times (instead of 8) and now playing inter-conference opponents at least once, with 3 inter-conference teams twice. Teams in the same conference but different divisions will be played 4 times.
Teams from the West the Devils will see twice include the Los Angeles Kings, Dallas Stars, and Chicago Blackhawks.
The Devils will be playing the Rangers in October, November, December (twice), February and March.
Other notes of interest…
>> The NHL Winter Classic will be played at Wrigley Field between the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings on New Years Day.
>> The All-Star Game will be held at Bell Centre, home of the Montreal Canadiens. The Canadiens are celebrating their 100th season. If you do the math, you’ll notice that they pre-dated the NHL, which was officially formed in 1917. The Canadiens have won the Stanley Cup an impressive 24 times, 13 more than the Toronto Maple Leafs and 14 more times than the Detroit Red Wings. For those of you keeping score at home, the Devils find themselves 8th on the all-time Stanley Cup Wins list of active teams.
