In a move just a few steps behind actually having a third jersey – which Devils GM Lou Lamoriello has expressly forbidden as long as he’s alive – the Devils fearless leader has conceded to the team wearing the classic Red, White and Green for one game this season.
That’s right – and entire 60 minutes of the throwback jerseys.
On March 17, 2010, the team will wear the old sweaters to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The only two players currently on the Devils that have worn the old fashioned jerseys are Martin Brodeur and Brendan Shanahan. The Devils stopped wearing the old jerseys after their 1992 playoff run, and changed to the “modern” Red, White and Black to start the 1992-93 season.
